A Message from Founder Jaime Rodriguez

Young Survivalists was not created simply as a business idea. It grew from a lifetime of experience.

Throughout my life, I have lived and worked in different countries, built businesses, experienced successes and failures, and learned how important it is to adapt when circumstances change.

I have also spent considerable time in environments where preparedness and self-reliance matter – particularly in the jungles of Latin America, as well as the forests and areas of Northern Ontario.

Those experiences taught me to respect my surroundings, prepare properly, use the resources available to me, remain calm under pressure and think before acting.

Most importantly, they taught me that:

Life does not always prepare us before it tests us.

Survival Starts in the Mind

When people think about survival, they often think about fire, shelter, navigation, knots and emergency preparedness. These are valuable skills, and they are part of what we teach.

But my experience taught me that the most important survival tool is your mind.

In the jungle, you adapt to the environment – the environment does not adapt to you. When conditions change or the original plan doesn’t work, you have to observe, think, improvise and keep moving forward.

The same principle applies to life.

Can you remain calm when something goes wrong? Can you solve a problem with what you have? Can you work with others? Can you make a decision? Can you recover from failure and try again?

That is where survival and resilience come together.

Preparing Children for Life

As parents, our instinct is to protect our children and solve their problems. But we will not always be beside them.

Every young person will eventually experience failure, rejection, pressure, fear, conflict and unexpected situations.

We cannot remove every obstacle from their lives.

We can give them the tools to overcome those obstacles on their own.

That means teaching resilience, leadership, communication, discipline, responsibility and practical problem-solving.

Instead of automatically thinking:

“Someone needs to fix this for me,”

we want young people to develop the confidence to ask:

“What can I do?”

Why Young Survivalists Exist

Young Survivalists is not about turning children into extreme survivalists. It is about developing capable, confident and resourceful young people.

Practical survival activities teach much more than the individual skill. They teach young people to observe their surroundings, stay calm, work together, make decisions, adapt when a plan fails and keep trying when something becomes difficult.

That is why we combine survival and preparedness skills with resilience, leadership, public speaking, anti-bullying, teamwork and problem-solving.

My decades in business reinforced those same lessons. Plans fail. Circumstances change. Mistakes happen. Success often depends on what you do next.

I founded Young Survivalists because I believe academic education alone cannot prepare children for everything they will encounter in life.

We cannot predict every challenge our children will face, and we cannot always be there to protect them.

But we can give them something they can carry wherever they go:

Knowledge. Confidence. Discipline. Resilience. Resourcefulness. Leadership.

We cannot prepare our children for every situation.

But we can prepare them to be ready.

That is why I founded Young Survivalists.
